SPAC SAYS NO TO MULTI-USE TRAILS- UPDATE!

The Stanbery Park Advisory Council (SPAC) would like to thank the Cincinnati Off-Road Alliance (CORA) for withdrawing their proposed bike trail project for our park. And we appreciate the staff at Cincinnati Parks for communicating this to us and supporting their decision.

However, we are not “out of the woods” just yet.

A secret organization called the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation (MWCDC), led by Wendy O’Neal, is pushing to have a singular path connect Stanbery Park to the Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail. They have even gone to the local news to promote use of this trail. We DO NOT support this proposal for a number of reasons.

  • Permission to use private land to connect Stanbery Park to the Little Miami Scenic Trail has been revoked. There are no feasible connections to this trail system, as the project would have to use Stern Preserve, owned by the Hillside Trust, who have voted to not allow access through their property.
  • The proposed trails clearly cut directly through the registered archaeological district which includes Traditional Native American cultural places and Sacred Spaces, and is opposed by the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma.
  • The terrain is unforgiving, with grades up to 50% and averages of 12%. This is not a leisurely, family-friendly way to connect to our business district, as promoted by the MWCDC. To make this trail usable would require dozens of switchbacks, removing an unacceptable amount of trees and other vegatation.

WHAT DO WE SUPPORT?

  • We support the plan by Tri-State Trails to create a multi-use sidepath from Ranchvale to Elstun, offering a large, safe, off-street paved path to complete the connection from the Mt. Washington Business District to the LIttle Miami Scenic Trail.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

  • Email the MWCDC at wendy.oneal@icloud.com and ask them to support the Ranchvale Connector, and abandon their proposed Stanbery Park project.
  • Call Tri-State Trails at (513) 655-3981 and tell them you support the Ranchvale/Beechmont Connector.
  • Email SPAC at info@stanberypark.com and tell us why you love our quiet, accessible hiking trails.
