The park is looking beautiful with all our redbud trees in bloom! The redbud tree was a favorite of the late Joe Zehren, a long time park volunteer, and the reason why we are blessed with many of these at Stanbery. Joe was also the grandfather of Kyle Plush, who we memorialize on the Pavilion seen in the background.
Redbuds are classic understory trees, meaning they thrive in the shadow of much larger trees. Unfortunately they are being squeezed out by aggressive invasive species likes Amur Honeysuckle and Bradford Pear. The Stanbery Park Conservation Team is dedicated to seeing Redbuds, Pawpaws, Serviceberries and more thrive in our parks, through volunteer events that remove invasive species from the land. Our next event is this Saturday, from 1:30 to 4:00 at the adjacent Stern Preserve. We could use a few more volunteers- here's the link if you are interested: www.facebook.com/share/1Ce79wBotk/
